SALES AGRONOMIST

Grasslands Recruitment Specialists is actively recruiting a full-time Sales Agronomist. This key position is with a multi-location full-service crop input retail company, one that is known as a progressive, service-oriented leader in their market. The position will report directly to the President of the company.

Our client is seeking a self-motivated, outgoing, sales-oriented individual with an agriculture background and expertise, and the ability to effectively market their products and services. They are looking for an individual passionate about building lasting relationships with customers and growers to better understand their business and needs. Through this partnership, you will leverage your leadership and persuasion skills to provide value-added solutions and drive growth.

This is a hybrid position, combining WFH, office (~40%) and regional travel to on-farm (~60%). The position has a base salary range of $65-85K annually, depending on qualifications and experience, and has additional variable opportunity, benefits, company vehicle etc. provided.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE SALES AGRONOMIST

What you’ll do:

  • Assist Ontario growers to improve their productivity and crop outputs.
  • Travel daily within your assigned region in peak seasons to meet current and prospective customers, generating leads by conducting cold calls and follow up visits, to generate and optimize sales opportunities.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with growers by providing on-farm consultations, developing crop plans and providing agronomic advice and actions to improve crop protection.
  • Anticipate and address customers changing needs throughout the seasons and provide recommendations based on routine crop scouting, soil, tissue sampling, and analyzing customer data housed within their proprietary customer data management system.
  • Become an expert in their full line of crop inputs, including crop protection products, seeds and custom fertilizers.
  • Ensure exceptional customer experiences by collaborating with internal teams to ensure seamless deliveries to growers by working to support fertilizer, seed and crop protection purchases.
  • Support customers stewardship efforts such as 4R’s, precision agriculture, pest assessments & record keeping.
  • Accurately record all visit and call details in our customer data management and order systems.
  • Provide back-up support for internal operational activities on an as-needed basis.

AM I A GOOD FIT FOR THIS SALES AGRONOMIST POSITION?

Who you are:

  • You have a passion for agriculture and helping growers feed Canadians.
  • You have strong knowledge of crop inputs, seed and crop protection.
  • You have 5-10 years of inside or outside sales experience, with outside sales experience preferred.
  • Preferably you are a graduate from a Canadian agriculture college or university program, but this is not a firm requirement.
  • You have Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) designation or willingness to work towards it.
  • You have strong communication and interpersonal skills to allow you to provide a positive experience and work collaboratively with customers, suppliers and internal team members.
  • You have strong time management and organizational skills.
  • You have an ownership/entrepreneurial mind set to help grow and shape the business.
  • You have computer navigation skills and ability to competently work with the Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • You have the willingness to work seasonably long hours in spring and fall during peak growing seasons as needed.
